Supporting Families Through – The Breathing Room Foundation

The Breathing Room Foundation provides individualized support to families affected by cancer in the Montgomery County, Pa  area. Understanding that a cancer diagnosis impacts the entire family, the foundation offers practical, emotional, and financial support to help these families “breathe a little easier” during one of life’s most difficult journeys.

Gamma Alpha Beta Zeta (GABZ) has proudly stood beside this mission year after year. We sponsor their annual Valley Road Run, contributing $250 to ensure the continued success of this meaningful event. Our sorors don’t just give, they show up. We lace up our sneakers and participate in the walk, joining a community of supporters walking with purpose and compassion.

Each Thanksgiving season, we adopt a local family through the Foundation. Our chapter prepares and personally delivers a full holiday meal basket, ensuring that the family experiences warmth and nourishment during the holiday.

Through the Cindy’s Supper program, GABZ prepares and serves homemade meals twice a year to families facing the physical, financial, and emotional strain of cancer treatment. This small act of love brings comfort and connection to families often feeling isolated.

We also extend support beyond the kitchen. For families impacted by cancer, GABZ purchases school supplies for every child in the household. This year, we were honored to serve two families, ensuring each child was fully equipped to start the school year confidently and prepared.

GABZ Empowering Women & Children at The Cradle of Hope

Cradle of Hope is a residential and transitional program that provides shelter, support, and life-skills education to pregnant women and single mothers with children. Their mission to create a nurturing environment for women in crisis aligns powerfully with Zeta’s vision of uplifting women and strengthening families.

GABZ has established a strong and active presence at Cradle of Hope. We host monthly information sessions, addressing vital topics such as mental health awareness, childcare strategies, and financial literacy, providing the residents with knowledge that empowers them.

We’ve also adopted the children’s playroom at the Cradle, transforming it into a welcoming and safe space filled with joy. Our chapter cleaned, repainted, and furnished the room, and provided age-appropriate toys to create a place where children can laugh, learn, and heal.

We don’t just stop there. Each year, we contribute to Cradle of Hope’s annual Beef and Beer fundraiser, donating a raffle basket and supporting the event financially. These efforts help sustain the organization’s programming and outreach.

And during the holiday season, GABZs once again show up by hosting a special Friendsgiving celebration with the women and children living at Cradle of Hope. We gather in community and gratitude, sharing a warm meal and creating memories that remind these mothers and children they are not alone.

Continuing the Work

Under the Power of SHE, GABZ remains committed to serving as a resource and refuge for women and families in need. Our work with The Breathing Room Foundation and Cradle of Hope reflects Zeta’s principles of Service, Scholarship, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. 

As we look to the year ahead, we remain energized and ready to expand our reach, deepen our partnerships, and continue to be the light for those navigating life’s darkest moments.
